In this psychological thriller, Jake Cole returns to his childhood home after his elderly father nearly kills himself by setting himself on fire and plowing through a plate-glass window. Jake's father - a great American painter - is a man whose shadow Jake has tried to outrun since he was a boy.
Now a contractor for the FBI who possesses a unique gift for recreating crime scenes, Jake is pulled into a hauntingly familiar double homicide investigation. He recognizes the artistic signature in the slayings and realizes that he now must be after the same murderer who killed his mother when he was a child. Racing against time and a category five hurricane, Jake sets out in a race to find a monster who kills his victims in an exceptionally grisly fashion.

Never thought this genre would fascinate me to the extent it has and is leaves me wanting more. Pobi, without doubt, has found the secret to keeping eyes "glued" to the page, utterly impossible to take a pause, and when I, and sure, any reader does, it is to take several deep breaths before continuing. Pobi's writing is akin to liquid gold being poured into a crystal vessel; both are highly prized and sought, and you become so entranced with the beauty and value, there is no easy way to imagine you can live without that beauty. Yes, the writing is "beautiful", even if it is quite horrific, everything comes together to make it a read you will long remember. You will never see the end coming, don't think you have any idea what to expect, you will find yourself standing on your head to find balance. As an avid reader of most anything, other than romance, Pobi's writing far surpasses any horror writer, he is today's Edgar Allan Poe, and as Stephen King is considered America's reigning Master of Horror, sorry Stephen, but it's time to abdicate the high throne as the Master of Thriller/Suspense/Horror. Anyone who reads Pobi will understand completely. This is one author no one should overlook if they are in search of something new, wildly imaginative and ends with the search for more of Pobi's writings. I'm hooked!Product details

Bloodman (Audible Audio Edition) Robert Pobi Luke Daniels Brilliance Audio Books Reviews
I buy a LOT of these low-cost mysteries. I'm very habitual and would happily read my core of ten - twelve favorite authors over and over. But I can rationalize out a sub-$4 ebook by thinking of it as supporting new authors and that, basically, I got it for free. The good news is that, out of the thirty or so of these I have read, Robert Pobi is, by MILES, the best writer. The guy is a spectacular wordsmith and walks that hairs-breadth line between masterful phrase and overly-clever better than almost anyone I read at any price. That is what makes this book such a crashing disappointment. Take that dazzling gift and hitch it's wagon to a moron-level plot twist like what ends this and what's left is epic irritation and waste. A character like Jake Cole has a Presence, gravitas, cred at a soul-deep level. But it almost seems like some prissy, neo-Calvinist retribution at the end; as though the tats and the fatalistic attitude and the rough sex demand his punishment. The whole polished, break-neck edifice - feeling, at times, like a leaner, less self-consciously literary version of James Lee Burke 's Dave Robichaux series - comes to a sour end in the Great Dane-on-steroids of all shaggy-dog stories. I was embarrassed for Pobi; as though I watched him turn a very professional sleight-of-hand trick, that he was very proud of, but I could see him palming the cards. I would happily pick up a book by him again, any time...but I'd probably read the ending first, just to avoid wasting my time.
Special Agent Jake Cole left his abusive father behind 28 years ago. His father's health is declining, he has dementia and Jake is an only child and takes on the task of dealing with his father. After Jake gets back to Montouk, NY he is contacted by the sheriff about 2 bodies not far from Jake's father's house. The bodies of a woman and child had been found in a house and were skinned. Cole sticks around to help with the case. Not only Cole dealing with his father and the case, there is also a hurricane on its way to Montauk.
Jake's character is a troubled character. His father was a abusive alcoholic. Jake is a tattooed recovering addict. He also has a wife and son that he would like to get back to. He is good at solving the crimes of murderers in a unique way.
This is an incredible first novel by Pobi. The characters and scenes in the book were well developed and intriguing. The murder scene was described very graphically and may be offensive for some readers. I hope to see more books from this author. It is a must read for the genre.
Pobi is amazing with his descriptions of a massive hurricane. I had to keep looking outside to verify it was a hot, hot clear day here.
Although the novel is well done for the most part, there is a major fallacy early on. Jake is supposed to be an FBI agent. But he would not have gotten past the front door with his history of years of heavy duty drug use. A body covered in tattoos might be acceptable if he was assigned to work undercover with gangs, but his special abilities in crime solving would not have entitled him to great leniency--because the FBI would not have known about his talent.
When authors want to write about the FBI, they should visit the FBI's website--and learn. See what is needed in order to apply. A well done story that hinges on defective facts is a disappointment.
